Bill Taft and I , along with Anne Taft, and Judy Hutchinson went to Mendocino last Monday, 5/12/14 to see the students' show. It was a fine show, well rounded, I thought. There were many chairs in evidence which indicates to me that Ejler Horsth-Westh is having an effect, and I think another teacher as well, who specializes in teaching rush- and cane-woven seats. The Krenov esthetic is still strongly present in much of the work, though there are many signs of departure, i.e. there is some marquetry featured, and some of the furniture is distinctly angular, featuring wedge shapes and forms. Here is a link to a Picasa album of images of the show. These are photos taken with a point-and-shoot camera, and of low quality, but they are an indication of what there was to see last week in Mendocino.
